Lesson 13 of 19
Prepare an assessment
Check the task and information selected before generating assessment reports. Stop to correct a wrong basis and identify remaining limitations.
This lesson concerns artificial intelligence (AI) governance: how your organisation assigns responsibility, checks AI use and records decisions and follow-up. AI Governance keeps these records; it does not operate the external AI tool for you.
At the end of this lesson
- Check the task/scope and policy version.
- Select information deliberately.
- Identify the report-generation boundary and when to correct or stop.
Before you begin
This lesson is for use-case owners and authorised contributors. You can read and complete the paper activity without an account.
For optional workplace practice, use the correct saved use case and current assessment-editing rights. Review the relevant preparation and policy records before selecting the basis. If access is blocked, record your proposed response in your notes and ask the responsible administrator to check access.
Key ideas
Available, linked, reviewed and included are different. Missing information may remain a limitation; incorrect scope must be corrected.
Follow these steps
1. Check the task
Open the intended AI use cases record. Confirm the purpose, audience, responsible person and exclusions before starting or resuming an assessment.
Check the result: The assessment will address the task actually intended.
2. Check policy and guidance
Identify the intended policy version and guidance depth. Where no adopted policy is available, retain the supported missing-policy limitation rather than implying adoption.
Check the result: The policy position is accurately described.
3. Review available information
Inspect linked preparation records and evidence versions. An available or reviewed file is not automatically selected for an assessment.
Check the result: You can distinguish the current records from a particular saved assessment basis.
4. Choose the basis
Use the preparation flow’s inclusion controls deliberately. Give an exclusion reason where required. Exclusion from the basis does not delete the original record.
Check the result: The selected versions and any exclusions are traceable.
5. Check allowance and the boundary
Read the organisation’s actual allowance. Approve plan and start advances the saved assessment flow; Create assessment reports is the final generation action. See lesson 18 before generating.
Check the result: You know which action requests report generation and may use an attempt.
6. Correct errors first
Correct a wrong task or audience in the underlying record before confirming the basis. Retain genuine unknowns with an explanation. Keep an existing stop or hold decision in force.
Check the result: A known scope error is not hidden inside an otherwise completed form.
7. Check readiness
Review the saved assessment basis and any blocked state. The default learning activity ends with this review. It does not generate reports.
Check the result: You can explain what is ready, what is missing and the next authorised step.

Practise
Paper activity — fictional information
'File A is relevant and reviewed. File B is unrelated. The task summary names the wrong audience.' Identify which file to include, how to treat B and what to correct before assessment.
Write your response in your own notes before opening the answer. You do not need to sign in, change records or run an assessment.
Check your understanding
Does linking both files mean both influenced the assessment?
Check your answer
No. Include the relevant version of A, exclude B with a recorded reason where required, and correct the audience before confirming the basis. Influence depends on the saved selection, not merely linkage. Reread steps 3–4 if all available files are assumed to be included.
The activity requires all three actions: select the reviewed relevant version of A, exclude unrelated B with the required reason, and correct the audience before confirming the basis.
Check your work
- Task and policy position are accurate.
- Selections and exclusions are deliberate.
- The learner can identify the generation/allowance boundary and any block.
